Nurturing Active Minds Through Play and Creativity
At Queen of Peace Catholic School, we believe that active minds flourish when given time to play, explore, and create. Alongside a strong academic foundation, your child will enjoy a variety of opportunities for growth beyond the traditional classroom setting.
Outdoor Recess: Building Healthy and Happy Learners
Our secure, fenced campus offers students daily outdoor recess. Each grade has a minimum of one hour outside time during the school day for grades preschool-2nd while grades 3-5 have a minimum of 45 minutes outside time per day plus PE. Supervised by adult staff, this unstructured but guided play allows children to:
- Practice teamwork, decision-making, cooperation, and sportsmanship.
- Develop essential social and physical skills in a safe environment.
Physical Education: Daily Movement for Every Grade
Every student receives 30 minutes of PE instruction daily, in addition to their outdoor recess. Our PE program focuses on:
- Developing lifelong fitness habits.
- Improving sports skills through activities like tumbling, jump rope, games, and team sports such as soccer, basketball, and volleyball.
- Encouraging nontraditional games, cooperative problem-solving, and rhythmic movement.
Weekly Art Classes: Inspiring Creativity and Confidence
All grades engage in one-hour weekly art classes to explore materials, develop hand-eye coordination, and express their natural curiosity. Younger children experiment freely, while older students focus on refining techniques and solving artistic challenges.
Program Goals:
- Foster confident problem-solvers and creative thinkers.
- Cultivate an appreciation for the arts as a divine gift.
- Provide a peaceful space for self-expression and reflection.
Music: Twice Weekly for Joyful Learning
Music classes are held twice weekly, with two 30-minute sessions. Children explore rhythm, beat, and various musical instruments, while developing an appreciation for the art form.
Program Highlights:
- Exposure to diverse musical experiences.
- Participation in the annual Christmas and Spring music programs.
